Lino prints
Linocut Prints first became popular during the wars when they were seen as a modern medium for the modern age. Linocuts differed from other printing mediums in that it had no tradition of technique behind it. They allowed artists to experiment with new ideas and new ideals and make their own tradition as they went along.
In this same spirit these prints were made using ordinary household linoleum for the blocks which were then printed by hand, using the back of a dessert spoon as a baren. The practice of hand-carving the block in reverse to the finished printed design makes the careful placement of each line a particularly terse discipline. Each print is individually hand coloured.
